How to Enable Call Recording on Galaxy S20, S20+ & S20 Ultra
There are two ways to enable calls on Samsung Galaxy S20 Series. The first is clicking “Record call” during an ongoing call, and the next is activating the phone’s automatic call recording feature through the phone settings.
However, it’s important you make a distinction before recording calls. Some countries do not allow call recording without the other party’s consent, so you could be held liable if you record without seeking permission from the other person on the line.
NOTE: Activating the VoWiFi (Voice over WiFi) feature could negate the call recording feature. It is important that you disable it ahead of time. Also, recording calls may not be legal in some countries, so please proceed with caution. |
With that said, let’s get it on.
Recording Calls Manually
Difficulty Level | Very Easy ●○○○○ |
Number of Steps | 4 |
Duration | 10 seconds |
The option to manually enable call recording on Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra can only be accessed from the kebab menu during a phone call. You can follow the instructions below to turn this feature on after making or answering a call.
- Open the Phone app.
- Type your contact’s number and make a call.
Note: You can also do this when answering a call.
- Click the kebab menu (3 vertical dots) during the call.
- Click Record call.
- Recording should now start.
Recording calls manually can be taxing in the sense that you’d have to do it each time you make a call. But that could be an advantage on your part as you activate the feature only when you really need to.
Recording Calls Automatically
Difficulty Level | Very Easy ●○○○○ |
Number of Steps | 8 |
Duration | 30 to 60 seconds |
Do you want to record phone conversations without toggling call recording every time? If yes, you can go to the phone app settings to automatically enable call recording on your Samsung Galaxy S20 device.
Plus, automatic call recording gives you extra options to customize the calls to be recorded based on the number you’re on a call with. Otherwise, this feature allows you to record all phone calls by default.
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap the kebab menu.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Record calls.
- Tap Auto record calls.
- Toggle the switch on.
- Read/confirm the Terms and Conditions
- Select what kind of calls to record automatically.
Note: With the Calls with specific numbers option, you’ll need to fill out which contact numbers will be recorded in the option field below.
The options you can choose from when automatic recording and what they do are as follows:
- All calls – Record all calls you make or receive.
- Calls with unsaved numbers – Record only calls with unknown or unsaved contact numbers.
- Calls with specific numbers – Record only calls with specific contact numbers of your choice.
Each of these options has its own set of advantages and disadvantages depending on your personal goals. For one, recording all calls could flood your phone storage while a call with unsaved numbers is useful if a stranger is trolling you.
Finding and Sharing a Recorded Call

Why is my Galaxy S20 not showing the call recording option?
Call recording is unavailable for some regions. Thus, it’s highly unlikely to be available on your Galaxy S20 series device if you live in a country with strict recording or wiretapping laws.
Even if call recording is legal in your region, it’s also possible that this feature is missing, especially if you imported your device from another region. In this case, you can activate the feature by using Odin to flash your phone’s firmware.
The Country Specific Code or CSC binary file on your Samsung device’s firmware is region-specific. When flashing, use the CSC codes from the list below, as these countries have the call recording option available.

FAQs About Call Recording on the Samsung Galaxy S20 Series
You can record calls using third-party apps but do so at your own risk. Also, Google has been banning third-party call-recording apps from the Play Store, which means you have to download them from somewhere else.
To install third-party recording apps on your device, you may have to sideload them from shady sources on the internet, which can put your phone at risk of getting malware or virus.
Go to My Files > Internal Storage > Call to find the default location where your call recordings are saved. If you can’t find them in the call folder, check the recording folder.
Call recording can get you into legal trouble, depending on the laws in your country. In countries where call recording is legal, you can be sued for sharing or publishing private phone conversations instead.
We recommend seeking the appropriate legal advice before recording any phone calls. Asking for the other party’s permission in a call is also advisable.
Wi-Fi call recording isn’t supported on Samsung handsets. Currently, Samsung is yet to share any plans for Voice over Wi-Fi, or VoWiFi calls to be compatible with the built-in call recorder on their Galaxy devices.
